Auto Aid Response

LJFD maintains reciprocal auto aid agreements for structure fires with New Brighton, Roseville, Vadnais Heights, White Bear Lake, and Lino Lakes Fire Departments. The location of the incident dictates which neighboring departments are alerted. Additional agreements with Little Canada and Vadnais Heights cover the western portion of the 694/35E interchange due to access limitations. LJFD also responds with SBM Fire and New Brighton Fire along the I-35W corridor.

  • • Structure fire mutual response (6 departments)
  • • I-694/35E interchange coverage
  • • I-35W corridor response
  • • Location-based automatic dispatch

Closest Unit Dispatching

Through technology in place at the Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center, LJFD participates in the Closest Unit Response model. This supplements standard structure fire and water emergency responses with the nearest properly equipped unit, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries. Ramsey County fire departments recognize that residents want the closest available help, not a specific department's truck.

  • • GPS-based nearest unit dispatch
  • • Structure fires & water emergencies
  • • Cross-jurisdictional response
  • • Ramsey County ECC coordination

Shared Resources

LJFD shares resources reciprocally with Roseville and Vadnais Heights Fire Departments during short-term surge situations. When a critical call cannot initially be covered by the host department, staffed crews from partner departments provide immediate response. This ensures rapid service delivery with minimal additional cost to any participating community.

  • • Reciprocal staffing with Roseville & Vadnais Heights
  • • Immediate surge response capability
  • • Cost-effective community coverage
  • • Seamless cross-department coordination
